Meet the Team: Blake Schellbach, Partner Sales Channel Manager

Our team at talech is as diverse as they come. Spanning the globe from Boise, ID to Dublin, Ireland, our employees have a wide variety of backgrounds and interests. We are musicians, knitters, and basketball players. We’ve worked as waiters at chain restaurants and in tech support. But despite our differences, we all have one thing in common: our journey has brought each of us to talech.

Check out our “Meet the Team Series” each month to find out some fun facts about our team and learn more about what they do at talech. This month’s edition features Blake Schellbach, Partner Sales Channel Manager.

Q. What is your name, title, and location?

A. Blake Schellbach, Partner Sales Channel Manager at talech in Scottsdale, AZ.

Q. How long have you been at talech?

A. Coming up on 1 year here!

Q. What is your favorite movie?

A. That’s a loaded question, I could possibly narrow it to top 10 if you were really twisting my arm…they are (in NO specific order): Tropic Thunder, Just Friends, Heavy Weights, MacGruber, Van Wilder, Hot Fuzz, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Wet Hot American Summer, Ave Ventura, Super Troopers.

Asking me to choose between these, is simply asking too much.

Q. What is your favorite part about working for talech?

A. A place where people actually enjoy their job – is there anything better than being around that type of community?

Q. If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A. Well I would say grilled chicken, some type of rice, an assortment of veggies and fruits, various cheese and a flavored drink of some sort. I would need a massive amount of different seasonings so I could change-up the rice and chicken regularly. Probably an assortment of condiments to keep things interesting. I suppose last would be garnish… eventually I would eat that too just to change up the monotony of my original selection.

Q. Do you have an office nickname? If so, what is it?

A. Yes, “Jimmy Boombox”.

Q. Before working at talech, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

A. In my younger years, I would pick up sticks and return them to the woods whence they came. Stick pickin’ was all the rage when I was 10. I actually got a penny per stick, not bad money since the sticks were plentiful. That’s when my older friend Leroy told me about breaking the sticks in half, then turning them in, to get two pennies. Now was Leroy morally wrong, yes – but no one knew how to double their profits quicker than ol’ Leroy.

Leroy eventually opened his own ice cream/sub shop in our small town. I worked there during my sophomore year – that was probably my most unusual job – because the town did not have a large enough population to support the endeavor.

Q. What three traits define you?

A. Workaholic (the good kind), aggressive/passive (somehow at the same time), and over-thinker.

Q. Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.

A. I once worked at a Sports Camp in Maine (summer after high-school) teaching basketball to kids that were only 4-6 years younger than me. Parents paid over $20k/summer to send their kids there. I got this job after a 5 minutes phone conversation…despite the fact that in High School:

I played an average of 2 minutes per game….

in the State’s weakest conference…

for a team that was dead last…

and had a graduating class of less than 60 kids.

I had a blast!

Note* I got better/taller/more athletic in college.

Q. Where is your hometown?

A. Rush City, Minnesota – home to the first all-you-can-eat Buffet! (claims not substantiated)

Q. What is your favorite sports team?

A. Unfortunately  – Minnesota (Wolves, Twins, Vikings, Wild)

Fortunately – Minnesota Lynx

Q. What is the most recent app you’ve downloaded on your phone?

A. The Zendesk Support App – so I can view support tickets without my computer.

Q. What does a typical day look like for you?

A. Get-up at 4:25am -> go to gym -> play basketball/lift until 7:00am -> drive to work -> answer emails, work on projects, get on sales team calls -> lunch -> figure out issue and get satisfying relief, helps sales reps learn about product -> bug Joy with product questions -> go home around 4pm – 5pm -> eat -> hit the treadmill -> binge some TV and mess around with work stuff -> go to sleep around 10ish -> rinse/repeat.

Q. Tell us about the best vacation you have ever gone on.

A. Would have to be my most recent to Hawaii for my golden B-day in November/December. I climbed the Ha’iku Stairs in Oahu, in a covert 3am effort – also climbed the wrong mountain first, nearly fell trying to go back down. Then I was swept off rocks in Maui and slammed against them, which left me stuck in bed for the rest of the trip since I had cuts & punctures all over and my knee was banged up pretty bad. Bandaged myself up and saved the cost of a hospital trip (thank you Army NG medic training).  Watched 4 seasons of Friends while I recovered.  Good fun all around.

Q. What hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

A. Playing Basketball

Watching Sports

Slowly teaching myself to write in Ruby and then to Java

Hiking mountains (since I am in the desert)
